Rutgers-Camden Handles Franklin & Marshall 20-5 in Baseball

LANCASTER, PA - #26 Rutgers-Camden scored 20 runs and banged out 25 hits to handle Franklin & Marshall College 20-5 in non-conference baseball action at Caplan Field. The Scarlet Raptors jumped on the board in the top of the first inning as Brian Jakubowski reached on a single. After two strikeouts by Diplomats starting pitcher Bobby Goman (Fr., Verona, NJ/Verona), Rutgers used a hit batsmen and back-to-back singles to jump out to a 2-0 lead. The Raptors pushed four more runs across the plate with two outs in the second inning to increase their lead. After a three run top of the third inning by Rutgers-Camden, Franklin & Marshall cracked the scoring column as Josh Welk (So., Strasburg, PA/Lancaster Christian) led the inning off with a single then moved to second on a Pat O’Reilly (Fr., Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) single. One batter later, Welk scored on a Jon Compitello (Jr., Yardley, PA/George School) single to cut the lead to 9-1. The Diplomats added three runs in the bottom of the fifth as Gary Kruger (Jr., East Islip, NY/East Islip) led the inning off with a single and moved to third on a double by Compitello. After Eric Milavsky (Jr., Medford, NJ/Shawnee) walked, Rich Gallugi (Fr., Peabody, MA/Peabody) drove in Kruger. Billy McGuire (So., Chappaqua, NY/Horace Greeley) the plated Compitello and Milavsky courtesy a two run double. The Diplomats scratched another run across in the bottom of the eighth for the 20-5 final as the game was called due to darkness. Franklin & Marshall (6-10, 0-1 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on April 1 at Caplan Field versus Ursinus College. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
