Compitello Blasts Three-Run Homer to Lead Diplomats to 3-1 Victory Over Gettysburg in Baseball

LANCASTER, PA – Jon Compitello (Jr., Yardley, PA/George School) hit a three run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning and starter Ted Serro (Jr., Brooklyn, NY/Xavier) pitched six innings to give the Franklin & Marshall baseball team a 3-1 victory over Gettysburg at Caplan Field in Centennial Conference action. The Bullets jumped on the scoreboard first in the top of the fifth inning as Jon Giodano led the inning off with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Mark Campo and scored as Jimmy McNamara drove him in on an RBI ground out to first base.
Franklin & Marshall answered in the bottom of the sixth inning
as Rob Stern (Fr., Franklin lakes, NY/Indian Hills) led the
inning off reaching first on an error by the Bullets shortstop.
He moved to second as Gary Kruger (Jr., East Islip, NY/East
Islip) lined a single to leftfield. After Corey Caruthers
(Jr., Conestoga, PA/Penn Manor) reached on a fielder’s choice,
Compitello drove a 1-0 pitch over the rightfield fence for
a 3-1 lead to give the Diplomats’ pitching staff all they
needed to record the win.
Serro threw six innings allowing one earned run on three
hits with four strikeouts and two walks to earn his second
win of the year before EJ Leary (Jr., Seymour, CT/Seymour)
threw three innings with three strikeouts and one walk to
earn his first save of the season.
Franklin & Marshall (8-10, 2-1 Centennial Conference) will return to action on April 8 at Gettysburg. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
