Franklin & Marshall Downs Elizabethtown 6-3 in Baseball

ELIZABEHTOWN, PA – Pitcher Jeremy Knox (Jr., Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) went eight innings allowing three runs on 10 hits and three walks with two strikeouts as Franklin & Marshall College doubled up cross-county rival Elizabethtown College 6-3 in non-conference baseball at Boyd Stadium.

The Diplomats plated five runs in the first inning as Pat O’Reilly (Fr., Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) singled to lead off the game and moved to second as Tommy Miller (Fr., York, PA/Central York) reached on an error by the pitcher. The Diplomats loaded the bases with no outs as Corey Caruthers (Jr., Conestoga, PA/Penn Manor) reached on an error by the Bluejays third baseman before Scott Haft (Sr., Jupiter, FL/Jupiter) drove O’Reilly in with a single for a 1-0 lead. Rich Gallugi (Fr., Peabody, MA/Peabody) cleared the bases with a double for a 4-0 advantage before scoring on a single by Eric Milavsky (Jr., Medford, NJ/Shawnee) for a 5-0 lead.

Elizabethtown cut into the deficit in the fourth inning as Eric Guise led the inning off with a double and scored on a single by Jared Morris to cut the Diplomats lead to 5-1. Morris scored two batters later on an error for a 5-2 score after four innings.

The Bluejays added another run in the sixth as Guise singled and came in on an RBI single by Adam Rebert to pull to within two runs.

However, Andy Anderson (Fr., East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) walked with two outs in the eighth and scored on an error for an insurance run.

Matt Kalos (Fr., Melrose Park, PA/Cheltenham) pitched the ninth for the Diplomats allowing one hit and a walk before retiring the side as the Diplomats improved to 21-13 on the year.

Tyler Hoffman took the loss for Elizabethtown allowing five runs on six hits and two walks with a strikeout in six innings of work.

Franklin & Marshall (21-13, 13-3 Centennial Conference) will return to action on April 30 at home versus Dickinson College in the Centennial Conference regular season finale. Game one starts at 12:30 p.m.
