LANCASTER, PA - All-Centennial Conference (CC) pitcher Ted Serro (Sr., Brooklyn, NY/Xavier) has been named the 2006 Edward Garrigues '25 Men's Senior Athlete of the Year by the Franklin & Marshall Department of Athletics & Recreation. Historically, Serro is the 11th baseball player to earn the Senior Athlete of the Year award since Bill Iannicelli '48 was first presented with award in 1948. Further, he is only the third strictly baseball player to earn the honor joining F. Irvin Augstadt ’56 and Jonathan Crawford ’67. A potential Major League Baseball draft pick, he is 5-3 with a 1.61 earned run average and 61 strikeouts in 56 innings this year as he has led the Diplomats to a 24-9 record, including a 14-2 mark in Centennial Conference play. The 2005 Centennial Conference Pitcher of the Year, he finished 42nd in earned run (1.92) and 45th in strikeouts per nine innings (9.6) as he allowed 20 runs (15 earned) on 46 hits and 18 walks with 75 strikeouts and three complete games in 70.1 innings of work while holding opponents to a .182 batting average last year while leading the Diplomats to the 2005 Centennial Conference title. A 2005 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Mid-Atlantic All-Region second team and All-Centennial Conference first team selection, in his last 25 innings of work, Serro did not allow a run and recorded 24 strikeouts as he lead the Diplomats to a 3-0 victory over Dickinson College, a 1-0 victory over Johns Hopkins University in the opening game of the Centennial Conference Championship Series and threw nine innings of shutout baseball in the opening game of the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional against #6 nationally ranked Rowan University to earn a no-decision in a 1-0 10 inning loss. Historically, the game marked the first time Rowan was shutout over nine innings since a 4-0 loss on April 5, 2002 versus Rutgers University-Camden, a string of 151 games without being shutout in a regulation game. For his career, he is 17-8 in 43 appearances, including 25 starts, with nine complete games, five saves, 48 walks and 192 strikeouts in 190.1 innings pitched as he is tied for the all-time wins lead in school history with classmate Jeremy Knox (Sr., Bronx, NY/Iona) and ranks third in strikeouts, fourth in complete games (10), innings pitched (188.1) and saves to rate among the best pitchers in the history of Franklin & Marshall baseball. Statistically, he holds the best strikeout-to-walk ratio (4-to-1) and strikeouts per nine innings (9.07) averages in school history among four-year pitchers with over 15 starts. During his career, F&M is 90-61, 51-19 in Centennial Conference play, as the Diplomats advanced to the 2004 and 2005 Centennial Conference Championship Series capturing the 2005 Centennial Conference title.
