Baseball Class of 2006 Finishes Among Career Leaders in Franklin & Marshall History

LANCASTER, PA – The Franklin & Marshall College baseball senior class of pitchers Ted Serro (Brooklyn, NY/Xavier), EJ Leary (Seymour, CT/Seymour) and Jeremy Knox (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep), catcher Stephen Frederick (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown), third baseman Gary Kruger (East Islip, NY/East Islip), designated hitter/first baseman Jon Compitello (Yardley, PA/George School) and outfielders Corey Caruthers (Conestoga, PA/Penn Manor), Eric Milavsky (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) and Dan Hanecak (Conestoga, PA/Lancaster Catholic) concluded their careers ranked among the all-time leaders in F&M history.

The nine seniors combined to lead the Diplomats to the 2005 and 2006 Centennial Conference titles and appearances in the 2004, 2005 and 2006 Centennial Conference championship series with a combined record of 95-63, including a 53-19 mark in Centennial Conference play. Historically, the Class of 2006 is second all-time in career wins behind the Class of 2005, which recorded a 97-62 mark.

EJ Leary
The left-handed Leary recorded a 1-1 record this year in six appearances with a 5.89 earned run average, 22 strikeouts, 10 walks and a .268 opponents’ batting average in 18 1/3 innings as he finishes his career with a 4-5 record, .422 ERA, 94 strikeouts, 44 walks and .250 opponents’ batting average in 85 1/3 innings.

In Centennial Conference history, he ranks third in strikeouts per nine innings (9.91).

Ted Serro
The 2005 and 2006 Centennial Conference Pitcher of the Year, Serro concluded the season 8-3 in 11 appearances with a 1.48 earned run average, 79 strikeouts, 19 walks and a .191 opponents’ batting average in 79 innings.

The all-time wins leader in F&M history with 20 victories, Serro ranks among the career leaders in saves (fourth, five), strikeouts (second, 210), innings (second, 213 1/3) and complete games (fourth, 11) as he holds a 20-8 record, .209 opponents’ batting average and 2.07 earned run average with 210 strikeouts and 52 walks.

In single season records, he ranks among the leaders in wins (fourth, eight in 2006; seventh, six in 2005), earned run average (fifth, 1.48 in 2006; 12th, 1.92 in 2005), saves (fifth, three in 2003), strikeouts (third, 79 in 2006; fourth, 75 in 2005), innings pitched (fifth, 79 in 2006; eighth, 70 1/3 in 2005) and complete games (sixth, five in 2006).

In the Centennial Conference rankings, he stands second in earned run average (2.07), sixth in strikeouts (210) and strikeouts per nine innings (8.86), seventh in victories (20), eighth in saves (five), 11th in appearances (46), 15th in winning percentage (.714, 20-8), 16th in innings pitched (213.1) and 18th in complete games (11).

Jeremy Knox
A 2005 honorable mention and 2006 second team All-Centennial Conference selection, Knox tallied a 10-2 record, .235 opponents’ batting average and 2.81 earned run average in 14 appearances this year as he recorded 53 strikeouts and 15 walks in 83 1/3 innings.

For his career, he finishes 19-8 with a 3.36 earned run average and .245 opponents’ batting average with 148 strikeouts and 43 walks in 222 innings as he ranks among the program’s career leaders in wins (second, 19), strikeouts (fifth, 148) and innings pitched (first, 222).

In addition, he ranks among the single season leaders in wins (second, 10 in 2006) and innings pitched (fourth, 83 1/3 in 2006; seventh, 73 in 2005) as he combined with Serro to record a 39-16 career mark as the duo were the most prolific pair of pitchers in F&M history.

In Centennial Conference history, he ranks 11th in victories (19) and innings pitched (222), 14th in earned run average (3.36) and appearances (45), 17th in winning percentage (.704, 19-8) and 24th in strikeouts (148),

Gary Kruger
A 2004 and 2006 first team and 2005 honorable mention All-Centennial Conference selection, Kruger was named the 2006 Centennial Conference Player of the Year as he hit .410 (64-of-156) with nine doubles, six triples, four homeruns, 40 runs batted in, 37 runs, a .622 slugging percentage, 18 walks and 14 stolen bases.

For his career, he hit .374 (173-for-462) with 22 doubles, 14 triples, 11 homeruns, 97 RBI, 122 runs, 69 walks and 86 stolen bases in 145 games with 131 starts.

The F&M career leader in batting average (.374), total bases (256), hits (173), runs (122) and stolen bases (86-on-98 attempts), Kruger also ranks among the leaders in runs batted in (second, 97), doubles (11th, 22), triples (second, 14) and home runs (second, 11).

Further, he ranks among the single season leaders in hits (first, 64 in 2006; sixth, 58 in 2004; 20th, 42 in 2005), runs (seventh, 39 in 2004; 12th, 37 in 2006; 13th, 34 in 2005), doubles (18th, nine in 2006), triples (second, six in 2006; fifth, four in 2004; seventh, two in 2005), home runs (fourth, five in 2004; sixth, four in 2006) and stolen bases (first, 29 in 2005; fourth, 25 in 2004; 10th, 18 in 2003; 21st, 14 in 2006)

In the Centennial Conference, he ranks third in stolen bases (86), fifth in batting average (.374) and triples (14), eighth in total bases (256), ninth in hits (173) and runs (122), 18th in runs batted in (97) and 26th in home runs (11).

Stephen Frederick
A 2005 and 2006 All-Centennial Conference second team selection, Frederick hit .389 (35-for-90) with four doubles, a homerun, 12 runs batted in, 21 runs, a .467 slugging percentage, 12 walks and three stolen bases.

For his career, he hit .327 (69-for-211) with 11 doubles, one home run, 31 runs batted in, 41 runs, 28 walks and 13 stolen bases while appearing in 77 games with 67 starts.

Corey Caruthers
A 2005 first team and 2006 second team All-Centennial Conference selection, Caruthers hit .291 (43-for-148) with seven doubles, one triple, two home runs, 28 runs batted in, 29 runs, a .392 slugging percentage, 21 walks and 15 stolen bases.

For his career, he hit .295 (158-for-536) with 25 doubles, five triples, five home runs, 85 runs batted in, 97 runs, 63 walks and 53 stolen bases as he appeared in and started 155 of the 158 games played during his four-year career.

Ranked among the career leaders in hits (second, 158), runs (fourth, 96), doubles (seventh, 25), triples (ninth, five), home runs (ninth, five), runs batted in (third, 85) and stolen bases (third, 53), he ranks among the single season leaders in hits (20th, 43 in 2006; 28th, 40 in 2005), runs batted in (13th, 28 in 2006), doubles (24th, eight in 2003) and triples (seventh, two in 2004).

In the Centennial Conference, he ranks 15th in hits (158) and stolen bases (53) and 20th in total bases (208).

Eric Milavsky
A 2006 All-Centennial Conference second team selection, Milavsky batted .381 (61-for-160) with 13 doubles, two triples, two home runs, 31 runs batted in, 42 runs, a .525 slugging percentage, 16 walks and 23 stolen bases.

For his career, he batted .295 (129-for-437) with 21 doubles, three triples, four home runs, 68 runs batted in, 81 runs, 31 walks and 43 stolen bases in 137 games with 123 starts as he ranks among the career leaders in hits (seventh, 129), runs (12th, 81), RBI (eighth, 68), doubles (13th, 21), home runs (10th, four) and stolen bases (sixth, 43).

Further, he ranks among the single season leaders in hits (third, 61 in 2006), runs (fourth, 42 in 2006), triples (seventh, two in 2006), runs batted in (12th, 31 in 2006), doubles (third, 13 in 2006) and stolen bases (fifth, 23 in 2006).

In the history of the Centennial Conference, he ranks 22nd in stolen bases (43).

Dan Hanecak
A 2004 and 2005 All-Centennial Conference second team selection, Hanecak hit .270 (31-for-115) with four doubles, 13 runs batted in, 17 runs, a .304 slugging percentage, 17 walks and 11 stolen bases.

For his career, he hit .320 (123-for-384) with 31 doubles, three triples, one home run, 62 runs batted in, 56 runs, 27 walks and 21 stolen bases in 118 games with 109 starts.

Among the F&M career leaders in hits (ninth, 123), runs batted in (11th, 62) and doubles (third, 31), he ranks among the leaders in single season hits (15th, 46 in 2005) and doubles (seventh, 12 in 2004; seventh, 12 in 2005) and stands 17th in doubles (31) in the history of the Centennial Conference.

Jon Compitello
Compitello hit .240 (23-for-96) this year with five doubles, 21 runs batted in, 10 runs, a .292 slugging percentage, 15 walks and one stolen base as he raised his career statistics to a .244 batting average (68-for-279) with 16 doubles, one triple, three home runs, 58 runs batted in, 35 runs, 38 walks and four stolen bases in 102 games with 80 starts.

Historically, he ranks among the single season leaders in home runs (12th, five in 2005) at Franklin & Marshall.
