LANCASTER, PA – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has announced the selection of Franklin & Marshall College pitcher Ted Serro (Sr., Brooklyn, NY/Xavier) to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division All-District II Baseball first team. The 2006 Edward Garrigues '25 Men's Senior Athlete of the Year and a potential Major League Baseball draft pick, he is 7-3 with a 1.50 earned run average and 78 strikeouts in 72 innings this year as he has led the Diplomats to a 28-9 record, including a 16-2 mark in Centennial Conference play, and the 2006 Centennial Conference title. The 2005 and 2006 Centennial Conference Pitcher of the Year, he is 19-8 in 45 appearances, including 27 starts, with 11 complete games, five saves, 209 strikeouts and 52 walks in 206.1 career innings as he ranks first in victories (18), second in strikeouts (209) and innings pitched (206.1) and fourth in complete games (11) in school history. Last year, he finished 42nd in earned run (1.92) and 45th in strikeouts per nine innings (9.6) as he allowed 20 runs (15 earned) on 46 hits and 18 walks with 75 strikeouts and three complete games in 70.1 innings of work while holding opponents to a .182 batting average last year while leading the Diplomats to the 2005 Centennial Conference title. A 2005 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Mid-Atlantic All-Region second team and All-Centennial Conference first team selection, in his last 25 innings of work, Serro did not allow a run and recorded 24 strikeouts as he lead the Diplomats to a 3-0 victory over Dickinson College, a 1-0 victory over Johns Hopkins University in the opening game of the Centennial Conference Championship Series and threw nine innings of shutout baseball in the opening game of the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional against #6 nationally ranked Rowan University to earn a no-decision in a 1-0 10 inning loss. Historically, the game marked the first time Rowan was shutout over nine innings since a 4-0 loss on April 5, 2002 versus Rutgers University-Camden, a string of 151 games without being shutout in a regulation game. During his career, F&M is 94-61, 53-19 in Centennial Conference play, as the Diplomats advanced to the 2004, 2005 and 2006 Centennial Conference Championship Series capturing the 2005 and 2006 Centennial Conference titles. Overall, Serro was one of two Centennial Conference players named to the first team as Johns Hopkins University second baseman Corey Gleason also earned the region’s top honors. Further, Haverford College second baseman Ben Einbinder and Hopkins’ designated hitter Rob Pietroforte were named to the second team. The District II region includes Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Athletes named to the district first team qualify for the national ballot and stand for Academic All-America honors. To be nominated for the Academic All-America® program, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution with a 3.2 or higher cumulative grade point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
