Scheuing Named Pitching Coach at Franklin & Marshall College

LANCASTER, PA – Lancaster Barnstormers’ pitcher and former Millersville University baseball coach Matt Scheuing has been named pitching coach at Franklin & Marshall College.

The interim head coach at Millersville University during the fall of 2005, he replaces Jeff Swarr who was named head coach at Millersville earlier this month.

A Lancaster County native and a graduate of Penn Manor High School, Scheuing concluded his third season in minor league baseball in 2005.

The lefthander was 6-6 with 52 strikeouts and a 5.29 earned run average in 26 starts for the Barnstormers, who completed their inaugural campaign with a 64-76 overall record, including a 37-33 Atlantic League second half mark.

Prior to pitching for the Barnstormers, he pitched for the Bangor (Maine) Lumberjacks of the Northeast League in 2003 and 2004 compiling an 11-5 record with a 3.99 ERA.

A 2003 graduate of Millersville, he recorded a 17-10 career record with three saves as a Marauder. In 2000, he finished with a 5-0 record as the Black & Gold concluded the season with a record-setting 45-14 mark as the team won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division and advanced to the NCAA Division II North Atlantic Region finals.

He takes over a Diplomats’ pitching staff that experienced a breakout season finishing the 2005 season 31st in earned run average at 3.48 in the final NCAA Division III statistics as the Diplomats won the Centennial Conference title. Overall, the staff allowed 128 earned runs in 331.1 innings as the team lowered its ERA by 1.92 runs and 140 places from 5.40 and 171st place in 2004.

Founded in 1787, Franklin & Marshall College is a coeducational, liberal arts institution which supports 26 intercollegiate athletic teams, all on the NCAA Division III level except wrestling (NCAA Division I) and men's and women's squash (independent). F&M also supports multiple club and intramural activities for both men and women.
