LANCASTER, PA -- Julie Phillips (Jr., Easton, MD/Easton) scored the game winner with 28:54 left in the first half as the Washington College Shorewomen knocked off host Franklin & Marshall 3-0 in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams. In all, Washington would bat in three goals on six shots in the first half while F&M peppered Shorewomen goalie Christie Allebach (Jr., Telford, PA/Souderton) with 16 shots as the junior keeper recorded six saves. For the game, Allebach would notch 12 saves with six more in the second half as the Diplomats attempted to battle back from the early deficit. Taniel Sisco (So., Kent County, MD/Kent County) picked up her fourth goal of the year at 27:41 by chipping a shot which found its way past the leg pads of F&M keeper Jenny Lindner (Jr., Northport, NY/Friends Academy) for a 2-0 lead. Forward Avery Coleman (Sr., Chestertown, MD/Kent County) added an insurance score with 8:54 left on the half clock to seal the win. Overall, F&M would outshoot the Shorewomen 22 to 7 as they limited the Washington offense to a single blast in the second half. The Diplomats will continue their season when they visit Elizabethtown College for a 4:30 varsity/junior varsity doubleheader on September 12 before returning home to face Muhlenberg on September 15 in the second game of the CC season. The game against Elizabethtown will have a family connection for F&M boosters as long-time football Coach Tom Gilburg's daughter, Stacy Rucci, is in her first year as head coach of the local rival Blue Jays.
