HARRISONBURG, VA -- Eastern Mennonite's Kristen Moyer and Kim Zook scored and assisted on each other's scores within two minutes as the Lions downed Franklin & Marshall College 4-2 in non-conference field hockey action on Saturday. Moyer and Zook would alternate in the opening minutes of the game as Zook assisted on Moyer's goal at 5:10. Moyer returned the favor at 6:52 as the Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead when Nora Helmus chipped in an unassisted goal at 24:56. F&M would attempt at comeback in the second half as team captains Jen Ferris (Sr., West Buxton, ME/Bonny Eagle) scored off an assist from Kate Heintzelman (Sr., Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) at the 42:19 mark. But EMU would put the game out of reach as Valerie Kanagay knocked in her team's fourth goal at 49:39. Franklin & Marshall College's Jen Hespell (Jr., Barto, PA/Boyertown) closed out the scoring with an unassisted tally at 56:03. Overall, F&M would pepper the EMU goalie Lauren Hartzler with 33 shots, including 13 blasts on goal, while Diplomats' goalie Jenny Lindner (Jr., Northport, NY/Friends Academy) notched five saves on 13 EMU shots. F&M will continue the season tomorrow at Mary Washington in a 2:00 p.m. contest before returning home to play Johns Hopkins on September 26th in the Diplomats' third Centennial Conference game.
