WASHINGTON, DC -- Following back-to-back 2-0 Centennial Conference wins, the Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats field hockey team came out on the short end of a 2-0 loss to #18 nationally ranked Catholic University of America. Catholic (8-1, 3-1 Capital Athletic Conference) would tally the game winner just 58 seconds into the game as Rebecca Clark pushed a Danielle Deon pass across the plain of the goal for a 1-0 lead. The Cardinals would score again 6:26 later as Stephanie Roselle added an unassisted insurance goal for the 2-0 victory. In net, Jenny Lindner (Jr., Northport, NY/Friends Academy) made 8 saves on 16 Catholic shots, while CUA's Kate Iannacone blocked away four of Franklin & Marshall College's 12 shots for the win. The Diplomats fought off the early CUA surge and created numerous offensive opportunities but were turned away by the stellar play of Iannacone. F&M thought they had a goal late in the first half but it was ruled that the shot came from outside the arc. The loss snaps a two game win streak by F&M and lowers the team's record to 4-7 overall, 3-1 in Centennial Conference play. Overall, F&M is now 4-4 against the Cardinals as Catholic avenged a 3-0 loss in Lancaster to the then #20 nationally ranked Diplomats last year. F&M will continue the season on October 4 with a matchup versus Division II Millersville University of Pennsylvania for local field hockey bragging rights. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. at F&M's Baker Campus.
