LANCASTER, Pa. - A berth in the 2001 NCAA Division III tournament and the Conference championship trophy are on the line this weekend in Chestertown, Md., as Washington College hosts the annual Centennial Conference field hockey championship this weekend.

Washington earned the top seed for the event and the right to host the tournament by virtue of a 7-2 Conference record. The Shorewomen (12-6 overall) will take on No. 4 seed Gettysburg (8-10, 6-3) on Saturday at 12:15.

The second semifinal will match Franklin & Marshall (8-9, 7-2), the No. 2 seed, and Johns Hopkins (9-8, 6-3), the No. 3 seed, beginning at approximately 3:00. The championship match is slated for Sunday, Oct. 28 at noon.

Washington, the top-scoring team in the Conference with 40 goals in 17 games, is led by the trio of juniors Julie Phillips (Easton, MD / Easton) and Jessica McAdams (Baltimore, MD / Bryn Mawr) and sophomore Taneil Sisco (Kent County, MD / Kent County). Phillips is second in the CC in scoring with 9-8-26, while Sisco and McAdams are fifth and sixth with 8-2-18 and 5-7-17, respectively. Sophomore Megan Daily (Voorhees, NJ / Eastern) was a first-team All-CC selection at back last season. Junior goalkeeper Christie Allebach (Telford, PA / Souderton) has an 83.9 save percentage and a 1.30 goals against mark. The Shorewomen are looking for their second Centennial title and first outright crown after sharing the championship three ways in 1997.

Franklin & Marshall has used a strong defense and some timely scoring to achieve its best record in Conference play since its inception in 1993. Senior Jennifer Ferris (West Buxton, ME / Bonny Eagle) leads the team in scoring with 7-1-15, while junior goalkeeper Jenny Lindner (Northport, NY / Friends Academy) has a 79.0 save percentage and a 1.68 goals against average. The Diplomats have outscored their Centennial opponents, 18-8, including a 2-0 win over Johns Hopkins on Sept. 26.

Johns Hopkins, the two-time defending champion who also won the 1993 crown, has won six in a row to take the No. 3 seed. Senior F Ashley Robbins (Newtown Square, PA / Westtown School) is the Jays' top scorer with six goals on the season and 36 for her career. Senior Camille Fesche (Lutherville, MD / Dulaney) also has six goals on the season. Sophomore goalkeeper Missi Schafhauser (Haddon Heights, NJ / Haddon Heights) has an 87.3 save percentage and an 0.99 goals against mark.

Gettysburg has won four Centennial championships (1994-97-98-99), but enters the playoffs with just two wins in nine road contests this season. Sophomore Kate Hopkins Oswego, NY / West Chester East, PA) leads the Bullets with six goals, while senior Kristy Moore (Mercerville, NJ / Stuart Country Day) has five goals and three assists. Senior B Amy Centanni (Medford, NJ / Shawnee) was a first-team All-CC defender a year ago. Freshman goalkeeper Quinny Dougherty (Wading River, NY / Shoreham-Wading River) has an 81.9 save percentage and a 1.50 goals against average.

In last year's inaugural tournament in Baltimore, Johns Hopkins posted a 2-0 victory over Muhlenberg in the semifinals and a 1-0 win over Swarthmore in the championship. The Garnet had reached the final with a 2-0 triumph over Washington.
