Diplomats' Ferris & Reindle Earn All-Centennial Field Hockey Honors

LANCASTER, PA - Franklin & Marshall College, which advanced to the Centennial Conference field hockey playoffs, placed two players on the 2001 All-Centennial Conference field hockey team. Senior forward Jennifer Ferris (West Buxton, ME/Bonny Eagle), who shared the lead in goals in Conference games (6), was elected to the first team, while midfielder Alison Reindle (Jr., Fleetwood, PA/Muhlenberg) earned second team honors. During the regular season, Ferris led the team in scoring with 7-1-15 and was named the Centennial Conference Player of the Week on October 15 for scoring four second-half goals in the Diplomats' 6-1 victory over Bryn Mawr She finishes her four year career with 15 goals and six assists, as she entered her senior year with eight goals and five assists through the previous three seasons. Reindle, the October 22 Player of the Week and a September 8th Honor Roll recipient, scored three goals and two assists this season to raise her career totals to six goals and six assists for 18 points. Overall, Franklin & Marshall finished the season second in the Centennial Conference regular season standings with a 7-2 record, 8-10 overall. They advanced to the Centennial Conference playoffs before falling to Johns Hopkins University 3-0. Gettysburg, which won its fourth championship with wins over top-seed Washington and Johns Hopkins in the Conference tournament, placed five players on the 2001 All-Centennial Conference field hockey team. Senior forward Kristy Moore was a first-team choice and also named the Conference's Player of the Year in balloting conducted by the conference's 10 head coaches. She led the Bullets in scoring with seven goals and five assists for 19 points, finishing fifth among Centennial players. The Bullets placed two players on the first unit and three on the second team. Joining Moore on the first team was sophomore back Amy Ritter, who led a Bullet defense that permitted just seven goals in nine Centennial games. Named to the second team was sophomore forward Kate Hopkins, senior midfielder Kristin Kucher and senior back Amy Centanni. Hopkins led Gettysburg with eight goals on the season. Swarthmore senior back Katie Tarr and Washington junior back Megan Daily were named to the first team for the second straight season. Swarthmore senior forward Kim Cariello moved up from the second team and joins her sister, Beth, as a first-team All-Centennial player. Beth was the first Centennial Player of the Year for Johns Hopkins in 1993. Kim shared the CC lead in goals (11) and was second in scoring with 11-3-25. Joining Moore and Cariello as forwards were Ferris, Johns Hopkins senior Ashley Robbins and Dickinson sophomore Caroline Gouin. Ferris shared the lead in goals in Conference games (6), while Robbins, who moved up from the 2000 second team, tied for the team lead with seven goals and ended her career tied for eighth on the all-time CC goal list with 37. Gouin was tied for third in the Conference with nine goals and third in scoring with 21 points. Muhlenberg senior Melissa Eicken and Washington junior Jessica McAdams are the first-team midfielders. Eicken was tied for fifth in the Conference with five assists, while helping the Mule defense permit just 1.12 goals per game - second in the CC. McAdams, who moved up from the 2000 second team, shared the Centennial lead in assists (8) and was seventh in scoring (5-8-18). Johns Hopkins junior Missi Schafhauser was the first-team goalkeeper. She was second in the Conference in save percentage (87.6) and goals against average (1.00), registering four shutouts in nine Centennial games.
