F&M Announces 2002 Field Hockey Schedule

LANCASTER, PA - The Franklin & Marshall Department of Athletics and Recreation has released the field hockey schedule for the 2002 season.

Coming off an 8-10 record, 7-2 in Centennial Conference play, the Diplomats will open the 2002 season on September 7 versus Manhattanville at the Drew University Tournament. Following the tournament championship/consolation game on the 8th, the Diplomats will travel to Lebanon Valley College for an away game on September 10.

Following four straight home games versus Haverford (9/14), Villa Julie (9/17), Eastern Mennonite (9/21) and Mary Washington College (9/22), Franklin & Marshall will visit Muhlenberg (9/28) and Johns Hopkins (10/2).

October will continue with home games versus Catholic (10/5), Ursinus (10/16) and McDaniel, formerly Western Maryland, (10/26) and away contests at Millersville (10/10), Washington (10/19), Bryn Mawr (10/22) and Gettysburg (10/29).

In November, the road to the Conference playoffs will run through Lancaster as the Diplomats face Swarthmore (11/2) and Dickinson (11/5) on the pitch of Baker Campus in the final regular season games of the 2002 Conference year.

The Centennial Conference field hockey playoffs are set for November 9-10 at a site to be determined.

Leading the charge for the Diplomats in 2002 will be co-captains Alison Reindle (Sr., Fleetwood, PA/Muhlenberg) and Jen Hespell (Sr., Barto, PA/Boyertown)

Reindle, the October 22, 2001 Centennial Conference Player of the Week and a September 8th Honor Roll recipient, scored three goals and two assists last season to raise her career totals to six goals and six assists for 18 points. In addition, she will serve as a team captain with Hespell during the 2002 season. Hespell chipped in an assist as Franklin & Marshall finished the season second in the Centennial Conference regular season and advanced to the Centennial Conference playoffs before falling to Johns Hopkins University 3-0.
