Drew Hangs on to Edge F&M 2-1 in Fall Field Hockey Festival Title Game

MADISON, NJ - The Drew University field hockey team claimed consecutive Fall Festival Tournament titles by defeating Franklin & Marshall College 2-1.

The Diplomats scored first on a penalty stroke senior defender Alison Reindle (Fleetwood, PA/Muhlenberg) thirteen minutes into the game. Drew's Colleen Mahon tied the game at 25:26, connecting off a feed from sophomore defender Erika Nelson.

After a 1-1 halftime draw, junior Kara Fetter broke the tie on a breakaway at 47:48. Despite several scoring attempts, the Diplomats could not convert a shot into the tying score as Drew held on for the 2-1 victory.

In goal, Jenny Lindner (Sr., Northport, NY/Friends Academy) recorded eight saves on 11 Drew shots, while the Rangers Tara Connelly made three saves.

Drew senior defender Nicole Furia was voted the tournament's Most Valuable Player, while teammates Mahon, Fetter, Casey Rogers and Leigh Ann Issac earned spots on the All-Tournament team.

For the Diplomats, Reindle, Sara Yonker (Sr., Rockville, MD/Richard Wootton) and Lindsay Mohr (So., Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) joined Cabrini's Maureen McQuade and Julie Smith, and Manhattanville's Jess Rickerhauser and Danielle Lecroix on the All-Tournament team.

Franklin & Marshall (1-1) will continue the season on September 10 at Lebanon Valley College. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
