Kraft's Penalty Stroke Lifts Lebanon Valley Over F&M 2-1 in Double Overtime

ANNVILLE, PA - Lebanon Valley College's Steph Kraft converted a penalty stroke with 10:34 remaining in the second overtime as the Flying Dutchmen defeated Franklin & Marshall College 2-1 in non-conference field hockey. Kraft, called off the bench following an F&M violation inside the goal cage, slotted the ball to the left for her first collegiate goal. LVC (3-0) took an early lead as Jen Selin scored on a breakaway 6:53 into the match. The Diplomats (1-2) drew even with 7:28 left in the first half when Brittany Croll (Fr., Frankford, DE/Indian River) chipped in an assist from Stacy Swymelar (Fr., Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville). The two teams would play the remainder of regulation to a draw as the Dutchmen fired 16 shots to F&M's six prior to overtime. In overtime, LVC outshot the Diplomats nine-to-one, including a seven-to-one margin in the first OT period. Franklin & Marshall goaltender Jenny Lindner (Sr., Northport, NY/Friends Academy) recorded 14 saves, while LVC's Carla Reavis blocked away four of the Diplomats seven shots. The loss was the tenth straight for F&M to LVC as the Diplomats are now 12-15-3, last recording a win versus the Dutchmen in 1992. The Diplomats will continue the season on Saturday, September 14 at home versus Haverford College in the Centennial Conference season opener.
