Field Hockey Clinches CC Playoff Berth with 1-0 Double Overtime Win Over Dickinson

LANCASTER, PA - Alison Reindle (Sr., Fleetwood, PA/ Muhlenberg) scored with 13:05 left in the second overtime period on a penalty stroke to give the Diplomats a 1-0 victory over Dickinson College and a berth in the Centennial Conference field hockey playoffs. The game was back and forth for the two regulation periods and the first overtime as neither team was able to find their offense. Combined, both teams combined for a 10 total shots on the day. At the 86:55 mark, Eileen Keever (Fr., Prospect Park, PA/Interboro) drove down the center of the field on a break away, but was interfered with to draw a penalty stroke. With the clock stopped, Reindle connected on her fifth goal of the season, all on penalty strokes, beating Dickinson goalie Marissa Giorgio with a low shot that skimmed into the cage to give the Diplomats a 1-0 victory and raise their record to 10-7 and 6-3 in the Centennial Conference. In goal, Jenny Lindner (Sr., Northport, NY/ Friends Academy) recorded her seventh shutout on their year, 11th of her career. The victory clinches the first winning season in F&M field hockey history at 10-7 since the 1992 team went 13-6 under first year head coach Sue Shafritz. F&M will continue the season on Saturday at #1 seed McDaniel (16-3, 7-2 CC) in the CC playoffs. In the other semi-final game, #2 seed Washington (10-7, 7-2 CC) will play #3 Johns Hopkins University (11-8, 6-3 CC). Game times will be announced Wednesday morning.
