CARLISLE, PA - Sarah Newton scored with 24:07 left in the first half for all Dickinson College would need as the Red Devils shutout Franklin & Marshall College 3-0 in Centennial Conference field hockey action. The Red Devils built the lead to 2-0 as Emily Greenlee knocked in a pass from Andrea Carlow with 15:07 left in the half as Dickinson outshot the Diplomats 12-8 in the first half. The Devils kept up the pressure in the second half as Dickinson fired 17 shots and converted a scoring chance with 10:23 left on the game clock as Caroline Gouin finished a Jennifer Portillo assist for the 3-0 final. In goal for the Diplomats, Michelle Altmann (So., Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) made 21 saves off 29 Dickinson shots, while Red Devils' goalie Tara McFadden turned away 10 of Franklin & Marshall's 12 shots on goal. The victory snaps a three game losing streak by Dickinson to Franklin & Marshall and eliminates the Diplomats from the Centennial Conference playoff hunt. Statistically, Franklin & Marshall could end up in a tie with Gettysburg College for the fourth and final berth in the playoffs if the Bullets fall to McDaniel, Ursinus, Dickinson and Bryn Mawr to end the regular season and the Diplomats handle Muhlenberg and Swarthmore. However, Gettysburg defeated Franklin & Marshall 3-0 in Lancaster on October 7 and would win the first tiebreaker, head-to-head competition. The Diplomats will continue the season on October 25 in Washington, D.C. versus Catholic University.
