Keever Scores Twice as Diplomats Stun #20 Muhlenberg in Field Hockey, 2-1

ALLENTOWN, PA - Eileen Keever (So., Prospect Park, PA/Interboro) scored both Diplomat goals in the second half as the Franklin & Marshall field hockey team stunned #20 nationally ranked Muhlenberg College, 2-1.

The victory marks Franklin & Marshall's third consecutive defeat of the Mules as the Diplomats previously defeated Muhlenberg in 2002 (3-1 W) and 2001 (2-1 W) and now hold a 7-4-1 advantage in the all-time series.

Scoreless through the opening 35 minutes of play, Keever, who tallied the game winner at the 22:24 mark of the Diplomats' victory last year against Muhlenberg, opened the scoring off a Lindsay Mohr (Jr., Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) assist at the 44:25 mark of the second half.

The Mules answered to tie the score almost seven minutes later as Kristen Bruschi knocked in a Steph Light assist to knot the score at 1-1 with under 20 minutes to play. However, with 10:52 left on the game clock in regulation, Keever sealed the game by burying a Christine Corkran (Jr., Ellicott City, MD/Glenelg) assist past Mules' goalie Lauren Schram for the 2-1 victory.

The key to the game for the Diplomats was solid defensive play as goalkeeper Michelle Altman (So., Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) recorded five saves on nine Muhlenberg shots. In front of the cage, Erin Benjamin (Jr., Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley) chipped in two defensive saves and Bryn Jackowski (Pottstown, PA/Pottstown) added one as Franklin & Marshall stifled a Muhlenberg offense which entered the game averaging 2.06 goals per game.

Franklin & Marshall College will return to action on November 1 at home versus Swarthmore College in the season finale. Game time is set for 11:30 a.m.
