Swarthmore Outlasts Franklin & Marshall 3-2 in Field Hockey

LANCASTER, PA - Chelsea Ferrell scored a goal and added an assist to lead Swarthmore College to a 3-2 victory over Franklin & Marshall College in the field hockey season finale. The Diplomats jumped on the board first at the 25:56 mark of the first half as Lindsey Mummert (Fr., New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) converted on a Meghan Short (Sr., Marietta, GA/Amherst Central) assist for a 1-0 lead. The Garnet knotted the score with three minutes left in the first half as Emily Szydlowski found the back of the cage off a Chelsea Ferrell assist. The Diplomats would take the lead again one minute later as Eileen Keever (So., Prospect Park, PA/Interboro) beat two defenders and deposited the ball into the cage as Franklin & Marshall carried a 2-1 lead into halftime. Swarthmore again tied the score as Ferrell finished a Heidi Fieselman assist ten minutes into the second half. The Garnet closed out the scoring with 11 minutes left in the game as Lauren Sippel used a Chloe Lewis assist to give Swarthmore the lead a 3-2 victory. Defensively for the Diplomats, Erin Benjamin (Jr., Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley) made two defensive saves while goalkeeper Michelle Altman (So., Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) made 10 saves. Franklin & Marshall College concludes the season 8-10, 4-6 in Centennial Conference play.
