9/21/03

LANCASTER, PA - Stacy Swymelar (So., Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) scored two goals to lead the Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats over Villa Julie College 4-0 in field hockey.

After a scoreless first half of play which saw neither team crack the scoring column the Diplomats poured it on in the second half.

Just under four minutes into the half, Lindsey Mummert (Fr., New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) got the Diplomats on the board as she deposited the ball into the back of the cage to give Franklin & Marshall a 1-0 lead. Three minutes later Kate West (Fr., Washington, D.C./Groton) scored an unassisted goal to up the lead to 2-0 with 28 minutes left on the board.

After that it would be all Swymelar as she scored off an Eileen Keever (So., Prospect Park, PA/Interboro) assist at the 14:32 mark then scored another goal courtesy a Whitney Trump (Jr., Sleepy Hollow, IL/Elgin) assist to seal the game and up the Diplomats record to 4-3 on the year.

In the cage, Michelle Altman (So., Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) blocked away the Mustang's lone shot for her first career shutout.

The Diplomats will return to action on September 30 when they travel to #14 Ursinus College. The game will mark the first meeting between the Diplomats and Bears as the 2003 season marks Ursinus' first in Division III after dropping down from Division I.
