Swymelar Scores in Overtime as Field Hockey Downs Manhattanville, 2-1

MADISON, NJ - Stacy Swymelar (So., Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) scored in overtime to propel Franklin & Marshall College by a 2-1 final versus Manhattanville in the first round of the Drew University Invitational.

Manhattanville jumped on the board first as Danielle Laccoix found an opening and deposited the ball into the back of the cage to give the Valiants a 1-0 lead at the 14:13 mark.

The Diplomats answered 13 minutes later as forward Brittany Croll (So., Frankford, DE/Indian River) finished an assist from Brenna Dolphin (Fr., Wilmington, DE/Archmere) to knot the score at 1-1.

Following a scoreless second half, Franklin & Marshall wasted no time in the extra frame as Swymelar blasted a shot that found the cage to give the Diplomats a 2-1 victory and send them into the championship game versus host Drew University.

Goalie Michelle Altman (So., Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) recorded four saves in the winning effort.

Franklin & Marshall (1-0, 0-0 Centennial Conference) will return to action tomorrow in the championship game the Invitational. Game time is set for noon.
