LANCASTER, PA - Franklin & Marshall College forward Eileen Keever (Jr., Prospect Park, PA/Interboro) has been named the September 7 Centennial Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week. Last week, she scored five goals and handed out three assists in a 3-0 week as the Diplomats defeated Catholic University (3-2 W), DeSales University (8-0 W) and Drew University (3-2 W 2OT). Against Catholic, she scored twice and handed out an assist before tallying two goals and two assists against DeSales in the opening round of the 2004 Drew University Tournament. Versus the host Rangers, she beat Drew goalie Casey O'Brien with an unassisted goal at the 39:37 mark to ignite a comeback as the Diplomats overcame a 2-0 first half deficit to knock off the Rangers 3-2 in double overtime. Individually, Keever earned the tournament's Most Valuable Player award as the victory marked the second time in the last five years Franklin & Marshall has won the Drew Tournament as the 2000 Diplomats defeated Juniata and Drew by 2-1 finals to capture the title. Overall, the team is off to its best beginning since 2-0 starts in 2000 and 1982. Historically, the 1982 team later went on to finish third at the NCAA Nationals. Further, the team's 3-0 start marks the first time that the Diplomats have opened a season with three straight wins since the 1978 team went 3-0 against Lebanon Valley (8-1 W), York (8-0 W) and Lafayette (4-1 W) before losing to the University of Delaware (1-0 L) as part of a 10-6-2 season. Franklin & Marshall will continue the season on September 9 at Lebanon Valley College. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
