LANCASTER, PA -- Molly Stevens scored and assisted on the game-winning goal to lead the #3 nationally ranked Ursinus College Bears to a 4-1 victory over #6 Franklin & Marshall College in Centennial Conference field hockey at Baker Campus.

The Bears (8-1, 4-0 Centennial Conference) never trailed in the game as Stevens batted in an unassisted goal 2:15 into the contest for the go-ahead score. Franklin & Marshall responded 24 minutes following Stevens' score as forward Brittany Croll (Jr., Frankford, DE/Indian River) worked her way through the Bears' defense to unleash a shot for her tenth goal of the season and knot the score at 1-1 heading into halftime.

The game became a defensive struggle as neither team could tally the go-ahead score in the second half until Stevens found Karen Wendler for a goal with 10:56 remaining on the game clock for the eventual game-winner.

Franklin & Marshall attempted to fight its way back to a tie and force overtime, but Melissa Buckley scored two minutes later for a 3-1 lead.

The Bears kept up the pressure and found the back of the net once again at the 65:05 mark on a goal from Crystal McCarney as Ursinus improved to 13-0 all-time against Franklin & Marshall.

Historically, the 2004 season marks Ursinus third as a NCAA institution in field hockey as the Bears dropped down from Division I in the sport prior to the 2002 season.

In goal, Michelle Altman (Jr., Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) recorded 15 saves on 24 Ursinus shots, while Bears goalie Jessica Lamina stopped four of the Diplomats' seven shots.

Franklin & Marshall College (7-2, 1-1 CC) will return to action on October 2 at Washington College in Centennial Conference play. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
