LANCASTER, PA – The Franklin & Marshall College field hockey team moved one place to 11th in the November 2 STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Coaches Poll. Ranked #12 in the October 26 poll, the Diplomats went 2-0 last week as Franklin & Marshall defeated Muhlenberg (4-0 W) and Swarthmore (2-1 W) to improve to 15-3, 8-2 in the Centennial Conference. Against Muhlenberg, Brittany Croll (Jr., Frankford, DE/Indian River) scored the first goals and assisted on the final score as the Diplomats clinched a CC playoff berth with the win. In the regular season finale at Swarthmore, Croll and Stacy Swymelar (Jr., Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) scored unassisted goals to clinch the #2 berth in the playoffs. The Diplomats will continue the season on November 6-7 in the Centennial Conference playoffs. On November 6, #1 seed Ursinus will host the winner of a first round game between #4 Gettysburg and #5 Washington at 11:00 a.m. Sixty minutes following the conclusion of the Ursinus game, #2 seed Franklin & Marshall will face #3 seed Dickinson College. In the regular season meeting between F&M and Dickinson, the Diplomats rolled to a 6-1 win over the Red Devils at home. The winners of the semifinals will then advance to the CC title game set for 1:00 p.m. on November 7 at the highest remaining seed. If Ursinus and F&M both win, the title tilt will occur at Ursinus, while if Franklin & Marshall wins and Ursinus loses, the CC title game will be played in Lancaster at F&M’s Baker Campus. In addition, the Diplomats will be seeking to tie or break the program single season record for most victories as the 2004 Diplomats are tied with 1980 team (15-6-3) for the second most victories in a season. Historically, the best F&M single season mark is 16-3-1 held by the 1982 team. The National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll is voted upon by NFHCA member coaches and has no bearing on selection to the 2004 NCAA Division III Championship field.
