Eastern Mennonite Stuns #10 F&M 2-1 in Field Hockey

HARRISONBURG, VA – Eastern Mennonite University held Franklin & Marshall to three shots on goal and tallied goals at 1:33 and 56:49 to upset #10 nationally ranked Franklin & Marshall College 2-1 in non-conference field hockey action.

The Diplomats (4-1, 0-0 Centennial Conference) fell behind early in the game as Meghan Hershey scored an unassisted goal 1:33 into the game to give the Royals a 1-0 lead at halftime as the Diplomats did not record a shot on goal in the first 35 minutes of play.

Following the break, Eastern Mennonite added the game-winning score as Jonalyn Denlinger tallied an unassisted goal at 56:49 to put the Royals in front 2-0.

Franklin & Marshall attempted to rally as Eileen Keever (Sr., Prospect Park, PA/Interboro) drilled a shot past EMU goalie Christina Bender, but the Royals’ defense did the rest keeping the Diplomats in check for the one goal win.

In goal, Lindsay Klimik (Sr., Brick, NJ/Brick) recorded one saves with a goal allowed in the first half, while Michelle Altman (Sr., Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) stopped six shots and allowed a goal in the second half to take the loss. Bender allowed one goal and made two saves on 14 shots to earn the win.

Franklin & Marshall (4-1, 0-0 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on September 18 at Mary Washington University. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
