MADISON, NJ – Forward Brittany Croll (Sr., Frankford, DE/Indian River) scored twice as the Franklin & Marshall College field hockey team downed Division II CW Post University 2-0 in the team’s season opener at Drew University’s annual Fall Festival tournament.

Courtesy the win, the Diplomats advance to face the Drew Rangers at noon on September 4 in the championship game. The host Rangers defeated Cabrini College 2-1 in the other semifinal game.

A member of the 2004 Division III All-South Region second team, Croll opened the scoring seven minutes into the game as she finished a pass from Eileen Keever (Sr., Prospect Park, PA/Interboro) for a 1-0 lead.

The Diplomats added an insurance goal at the 62:33 mark as Lindsay Solar (So., King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion) found Croll for another goal.

The pair of scores moves Croll into a tie with Ann Ricciutti Phillips ’80, now the women’s lacrosse coach at Franklin & Marshall, as both have 38 career goals and are tied for fifth on the College’s career goals list.

In goal, Lindsay Klimik (Sr., Brick, NJ/Brick) made two saves in the first half and Michelle Altman (Sr., Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) stopped both shots she faced in the second half as the Diplomats recorded their first shutout since a 6-0 win over Dickinson College in the 2004 Centennial Conference semifinals on November 6.

For CW Post, Pam Guernaccini recorded six saves on 15 Franklin & Marshall shots to take the loss.

Historically, the win marks the sixth straight season opening victory by Franklin & Marshall in field hockey as the team last lost an opening tilt on September 2, 1999 as the Diplomats fell 2-1 in overtime at York College of Pennsylvania.
