MADISON, NJ – Forward Brittany Croll (Sr., Frankford, DE/Indian River) was named the tournament Most Valuable Player and assisted on the Diplomats first goal as the Franklin & Marshall College field hockey team defeated host Drew University 2-1 in overtime in the title game of the 2004 Rangers Fall Festival Tournament. Following a scoreless first half, Drew’s Whitney Kerns was given a penalty stroke opportunity on a penalty corner infraction, and the sophomore midfielder drilled it into the cage to give the Rangers a one-goal lead with 4:55 left on the game clock. The Diplomats countered 1:29 later as Croll fed a ball from center of the arc to forward Eileen Keever (Sr., Prospect Park, PA/Interboro) off to the left who shot it past Drew goalie Anne Wallin to even up the score and force overtime. In the extra frame, forward Lindsey Mummert (Jr., New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) received a feed from Keever and nailed the game-winner with 5:27 left in overtime to give the Diplomats their second consecutive overtime title game victory against Drew University. In 2004, Croll blasted a shot from the top of the circle for the winning score at the 96:22 mark as Franklin & Marshall defeated the host Rangers 3-2 in double overtime to capture the tournament title.
In goal, Wallin recorded 12 saves with two goals allowed
in Drew’s effort to take the loss, while Michelle Altman (Sr.,
Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) played the first half and overtime
with five saves to earn the win and Lindsay Klimik (Sr., Brick,
NJ/Brick) registered five saves in the second half with a
goal allowed for the Diplomats.
