Dr. Robert D. Bunnell, Director of Athletics and Recreation at Franklin & Marshall College, has announced the appointment of Christian Zwickert as an assistant men's lacrosse coach.

A former assistant at Division I Dartmouth and Providence Colleges, Zwickert will serve as Offensive Coordinator and goalie coach for the Diplomats.

A 1994 graduate of the University of Delaware with a bachelors of science degree in Physical Education and a minor in Fitness Management, Zwickert played with several local lacrosse teams before joining the German National Team in 1998. While with Germany, he competed at the World Games in Baltimore, Maryland, the 1999 European Championships in England and the 2000 European Championships in Scotland. In the 1999 championship game versus England, he earned Most Valuable Player Honors.

Last spring, Zwickert was named the head coach for the German National Team for the 2001 European Championships in Penarth, Wales. Germany finished the tournament with a 6-0 record, capturing the European title with their second win over England in a championship contest.

He will look to bring his championship style to the F&M as the Diplomats will be led by National Junior College Championship and former Georgetown head coach William Gorrow, who was named the 14th head coach in Franklin & Marshall College history in July.

Gorrow and Zwickert take over a team which Insidelacrosse.com has ranked 18th among Division III programs in the 2002 Face-Off Lacrosse Yearbook pre-season poll as F&M is coming off a banner 9-7, 3-3 in Centennial Conference play season in 2001. The Diplomats' season record marked the program's first winning season mark since a 9-4 finish in 1996, a year in which the Diplomats placed ninth in the final national poll.
