LANCASTER, PA -- Chris Wathey (Fr., South Huntington, NY/St. Anthony's) scored 10 goals and handed out five assists in Franklin & Marshall College's 2-2 start to be named to the Centennial Conference men's lacrosse honor roll for the week of March 11. He ranks seventh in goal scoring (2.50), eighth in assists (1.25) and eighth in points (3.75) per game as the Diplomats possess the fourth most potent offense in the Centennial Conference with an average of 11.25 goals per game Against Cabrini, Wathey netted a career high five goals and dished out three assists for eight points as the Diplomats opened the 2002 men's lacrosse season with a 13-4 victory at Cabrini College on February 27. Leading 1-0 off a goal by Wathey at 14:11 off an Andrew Kuskowski (Sr., Huntington, NY/Huntington) assist, Cabrini would tie the game at 8:02 of the first as Mike Pape was credited with the score off a dropped ball which bounced into the F&M net. Tied two-to-two following goals by Wathey and Cabrini's Mike Piccolli, Colin Hanley (Fr., Davidsonville, MD/DeMatha) would kick-start a 7-0 Diplomats' run to seal the game by netting a goal with just under a minute remaining in the first quarter on a man advantage following a holding penalty to Cavaliers defender Brian Felice. With 37 seconds left in the quarter, midfielder Jon Singer (Jr., Reisterstown, MD/Boys' Latin) pounded a shot past Cavaliers' goalie Mike Clements for a 4-2 lead after one period of play. Singer, who finished the game with two goals and two assists, sandwiched his scores around another tally by Hanley for a 6-2 F&M lead with eight minutes left in the half. Wathey closed out the scoring in the first half with a pair of goals in the stanza's final three minutes for a 9-2 lead. Following Wathey's final score of the game off a Chad Tyler (Jr., Newtonville, NY/Western Reserve) feed and an unassisted score by Cabrini's TJ Fairlie, Vandy Vanderwarker (So., Keswick, VA/STAB) flicked a Singer pass into the twine for an 11-3 lead with 7:31 left on the game clock as the Diplomats avenged a 9-8 near loss from the 2001 season. Versus Kenyon College, Wathey chipped in three goals, including the tying score with 6:39 left on the clock to force overtime, as the Diplomats defeated the Lords in overtime, at Duke University, 12-11. He added one goal in both an 11-10 overtime loss versus Lynchburg College and a 12-11 double overtime loss to Hampden-Sydney as F&M is now 2-2 overall, 0-0 in Centennial Conference play. Franklin & Marshall will continue the season versus Washington & Lee University on March 16. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. at Loyola High School in Maryland.
