#5 Washington & Lee Holds Off #20 F&M in Men's Lacrosse, 10-6

Baltimore, MD -- Washington & Lee's Dustin Martin scored four goals as the #5 ranked Generals used a four goal surge in the fourth quarter to hold off #20 Franklin & Marshall College in men's lacrosse, 10-6.

Washington & Lee, which slipped the game's first goal into the net at the 3:00 mark, battled the Diplomats throughout the contest as F&M pulled within one goal of tying the game twice in the second half.

Down 1-0, F&M scored to tie the contest at the seven-minute mark, but the Generals outflanked the Diplomats to hold a 5-3 lead at intermission.

F&M's Bryan Nolan (Jr., Scottsdale, AZ/Western Reserve) beat W&L goalie Ansel Sanders to open the second half as the Diplomats pulled within one at 5-4. However, Washington & Lee's Martin found the back of the net to push the lead back to two before Vandy Vanderwarker (So., Keswick, VA/STAB) chipped in a score for a 6-5 score at the end of the third quarter.

However, the Generals (3-2, 0-0 ODAC) engineered a 4-1 surge in the fourth to pick up their third year of the year courtesy the game winning score by Matt Fink off an Andrew Barnett assist.

In net, F&M's Mike Sartorius (Fr., Summit, NJ/Summit) stopped 15 of Washington & Lee's 41 shots on goal, while Sanders blocked away 13 of the Diplomats' 34 scoring attempts.

For Franklin & Marshall, Vanderwarker finished with two goals, as the Diplomats received solo scores from Nolan, Jon Singer (Jr., Reisterstown, MD/Boys Latin), Andrew Kuskowski (Sr., Huntington, NY/Huntington), and Colin Hanley (Fr., Davidsonville, MD/DeMatha).

Franklin & Marshall (2-3, 0-0 Centennial Conference) will continue the season with the squad's 2002 home opener on March 20 versus Colorado College at 3:30 p.m. Admission to all F&M home games is free and open to the public.
