LANCASTER, PA -- Franklin & Marshall College, which claimed the 2002 Eastern College Athletic Conference Southern Region Championships with a 18-3 win over the University of Scranton on May 5, placed six players on the 2002 All-Centennial Conference men's lacrosse team, which was announced today.

Franklin & Marshall College defenseman Chris Schellhorn (Sr., Wilton, CT/Wilton) was a first-team selection in balloting by the seven Conference head coaches. A 2001 All-CC second-team honoree and a 2002 team captain, Schellhorn was the cornerstone of a Franklin & Marshall defense which allowed 9.13 goals per game, the third best average among the seven Conference schools.

The last line of defense and the squad's top goal scorer earned second team honors as goalie Mike Sartorius (Fr., Summit, NJ/Summit) and midfielder Jon Singer (Jr., Reisterstown, MD/Boys Latin) were recognized for their play.

In goal, Sartorius was near unbeatable allowing 124 goals in 898 minutes of play for a 62.7 save percentage, the second best in the Conference behind All-American and Centennial Conference Player of the Year Tim McGinnis of Gettysburg (67.1).

In his first season of intercollegiate competition, Sartorius recorded 208 saves, shattering the Conference record freshman goalie saves of 191 formerly held by Andrew Barter of Gettysburg from the 1997 season. However, he fell short of the school single season record of 225 set by Scott Cozzens '88 during the 1988 season.

Further, Sartorius reset the Centennial Conference single game and tournament saves records by recording 22 in a 7-6 loss to #1 nationally ranked Gettysburg on April 26 in the opening round of the Centennial Conference playoffs. The total erased the previous single game playoff record of 15 set by All-American Dave Kahn '01, the goalie Sartorius replaced between the pipes, in a 9-7 loss to Gettysburg in the opening game of the 2001 Conference playoffs.

In terms of tournament saves, Sartorius' total betters the previous Conference mark of 21 saves set by McGinnis during the 2001 Centennial playoffs. In other season highs, Sartorius holds the all-Division (I, II, III) NCAA mark for most saves in a game during the 2002 season as he stopped 33 of 58 shots by Colorado College in a 14-9 win in the Diplomats home-opener on March 21.

Across the field, Singer led the Diplomats in goals with 24, two better than runners-up Vandy Vanderwarker (So., Keswick, VA/STAB) and Bas Solleveld (So., Glenmoore, PA/Shipley). A 2001 All-CC Honorable Mention selection, 2002 marked the second year Singer has led the Diplomats in goals scored as he tied with Greg Ivry '01 for the lead (27) last year. Singer finished the 2002 season with 24-10-34 to place second on the team in points behind team co-captain Andrew Kuskowski (Sr., Huntington, NY/Huntington).

Kuskowski, Solleveld and defensive midfielder Kris Weaver (Sr., Laurel, MD/Pallotti) dominated the Conference Honorable Mention team as the Diplomats claimed three of the five positions on the CC's third team.

An attackman, Kuskowski led the team in points (46) and assists (32). Statistically, F&M lost all seven games in which Kuskowski failed to register three assists or more. For his career, he finishes with 45-68-113, as he ranks 10th all-time in program history for career assists (68), three shy of tying John Bloom '96 (71) for ninth place.

In Centennial Conference games, Kuskowski, 2-13-15, tied with Steve Welsh (Fr., Lewes, DE/Cape Henelopen), 12-3-15, and Singer, 9-6-15, for the team lead in points.

A midfielder, Solleveld chipped in 22-5-27, including eight goals and four assists in Centennial Conference games, while Weaver scored one goal and assisted Schellhorn on the defensive end of the field. A 1999 All-CC Honorable Mention selection, Weaver scored his second collegiate goal by corralling a ground ball 10-yards in front of the F&M bench on defense and going the length of the field to beat McGinnis with a one-timer in a 14-5 loss to Gettysburg on April 20.

Franklin & Marshall finished the year 9-7, 3-3 in Centennial Conference play. Overall, F&M's season record marked the program's second winning season since a 9-4 finish in 1996, a year in which the Diplomats placed ninth in the final national poll. The 2001 Diplomats also finished 9-7, 3-3 in Conference play.

In the ECAC playoffs, Kuskowski scored two goals and dished out four assists to pace the Diplomats to an 18-3 victory. It marked F&M's first post-season championship since claiming the Middle Atlantic Conference title in 1990.
