LANCASTER, PA -- The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association has announced that Franklin & Marshall College defenseman Chris Schellhorn (Sr., Wilton, CT/Wilton) has been named to the 2002 STX/USILA All-America Team.

Schellhorn, who made the organization's honorable mention squad, is the 31st lacrosse player to garner All-American status while in the blue and white uniform of Franklin & Marshall College. He is the second F&M player in two years to earn the award as goaltender Dave Kahn '01 also earned honorable mention status following the 2001 season.

A 2002 first-team and 2001 second team All-Centennial Conference selection and a 2002 team captain, Schellhorn was the cornerstone of a Franklin & Marshall defense which allowed 9.13 goals per game, the third best average among the seven Conference schools. Overall, he led the Diplomats to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region Championship for F&M's first post-season title since claiming the Middle Atlantic Conference championship in 1990.

He will conclude his collegiate career on June 8 in the USILA/STX North-South All-Star Game at Johns Hopkins University.

Schellhorn's naming to the North-South game marks F&M's first inclusion since 1996 when attackmen Chris Mergadt '96, Don Gervais '96 and midfielder Jeremy Nierman '96 were named to the South team after leading the Diplomats to a 9-4 record.

The Division III contest begins at 12:00 p.m., with the Division I game following at 3:00 p.m.

Franklin & Marshall finished the year 9-7, 3-3 in Centennial Conference play. Overall, F&M's season record marked the program's second winning season since a 9-4 finish in 1996, a year in which the Diplomats placed ninth in the final national poll. The 2001 Diplomats also finished 9-7, 3-3 in Conference play.
