BALTIMORE, MD -- Colin Hanley (So., Davidsonville, MD/DeMatha) and Beau Smith (Sr., Baltimore, MD/Gilman) scored four goals apiece to lead the Franklin & Marshall College men's lacrosse team to a 12-7 victory over Denison University.

Trailing 1-0 following a goal by the Big Red's Greg Mavraganis 1:02 into the game, Franklin & Marshall responded with seven unanswered goals, including a four-minute hat trick by Smith.

Denison cut the lead to 7-2 when Mavraganis added his second of three unassisted goals, but Hanley completed a hat trick with a goal off a feed from All-America selection Jon Singer (Sr., Reisterstown, MD/Boys' Latin) with 4:10 left until halftime as the Diplomats carried an 8-1 advantage into intermission.

Down 11-3 entering the fourth quarter, Denison rallied to outscore F&M 4-1 off a hat-trick by Bradford Seifert, but F&M goalie Mike Sartorius (So., Summit, NJ/Summit) blocked away five other shots on goal in the fourth to preserve the win.

Overall, Sartorius recorded 23 saves on 30 Denison shots, while Big Red goalie Tom Moriarity stopped 16 of the Diplomats' 40 shots on goal.

For F&M, Singer added two goals and five assists for seven points to raise his season numbers to a team best four goals and 10 assists for 24 points in the first two games of the season. In addition, he now has 70-35-105, 30 goals short of surpassing Paul Friedman '75 (99) for eighth in goals scored in F&M program history.

Bas Solleveld (Jr., Glenmoore, PA/Shipley) added one goal and three assists, while Bryan Nolan (Sr., Hudson, OH/Western Reserve) added a goal and Steve Welsh (So., Lewes, DE/Cape Henelopen) added two goals chipped in two assists to round out the Diplomats' scoring.

The win improves F&M to 2-0 as the Diplomats are the first Centennial Conference team to reach two victories this year as #2 Gettysburg (1-1) fell 10-9 to #4 Washington & Lee and #11 Nazareth handled #7 Washington (0-2) 9-6.

Due to snow on F&M's Williamson Field, the contest was moved to the artificial turf of Loyola College's Curley Field.
