SWARTHMORE, PA -- Bryan Nolan (Sr., Hudson, OH/Western Reserve) scored six goals and added two assists for a game high eight points as the Franklin & Marshall College men's lacrosse team built a 6-1 lead in the first quarter and never looked back to defeat Ursinus College 21-3 in both team's season opener.

F&M wasted little time in taking the lead as preseason All-America selection Jon Singer (Sr., Reisterstown, MD/Boy's Latin) sliced through the Bears' defense and finished an unassisted goal for a 1-0 lead. The goal marked the first of two goals by Singer who also added a game high five assists to raise his career numbers to 68-30-98, 32 goals short of surpassing Paul Friedman '75 (99) for eighth in goals scored in F&M program history.

Trailing 3-0 following goals by Nolan and Colin Hanley (So., Davidsonville, MD/DeMatha), Ursinus scored the first goal in the program's Centennial Conference history when John Kapinski beat F&M goalie Mike Sartorius (So., Summit, NJ/Summit) to bring the Bears within two goals.

F&M answered with a pair of goals by Nolan and a solo score by JB Robichau (So., Edgartown, MA/Tabor) to push the lead to 6-1 through the first 15 minutes of play. Overall, Nolan completed his first hat-trick in the first quarter as 8:03 passed between his first and third goals.

In addition, Robichau also recorded a hat trick, while Vandy Vanderwarker (Jr., Keswick, VA/STAB), Beau Smith (Sr., Baltimore, MD/Gilman), Singer and Steve Welsh (So., Lewes, DE/Cape Henelopen) added two goals.

The Bears opened the second quarter with a goal at the 10:52 mark by Jay Hobson off a feed from Nick Shriver, but the Diplomats exploded for four unanswered goals to lead 10-2 at intermission.

In the third quarter, F&M turned up the pressure netting nine goals to make the margin 19-2 on their way to the 18 goal win.

In goal, Sartorius made one save and allowed two goals, while reserve goaltenders Rob Hamilton (Fr., Mockton, MD/Gilman) faced no shots and Will McIntire (So., Arlington, VA/Taft) blocked away four scoring attempts with one goal allowed.

For Ursinus, Kyle Shorburger blocked away 13 of the Diplomats 39 shots while allowing 21 goals.

The win improves F&M to 2-0 all-time against the Bears as the Diplomats routed Ursinus 28-0 during the 2001 season in non-conference competition.

Due to snow on Ursinus' game field, the contest was moved to Swarthmore College's recently installed artificial turf at Clothier Field.
