BALTIMORE, MD -- Attackman Steve Welsh (So., Lews, DE/Cape Henelopen) scored four goals and dished out three assists to lead the Franklin & Marshall College men's lacrosse team to their third consecutive victory of the 2003 season with a 17-3 rout of Marymount University at the University of Maryland.

Played on the artificial turf of a neutral site due to residual snow in the Mid-Atlantic region, Franklin & Marshall College made the field its own by scoring 10 first half goals to take a commanding 10-1 lead into intermission.

To open the second half, F&M tacked on six third period goals and added one in the fourth to record the 14 goal victory as the Diplomats are outscoring their opponents 50-13, an average score of 17-4, following victories over Ursinus (21-3) and Denison (12-7).

In goal, goalie Mike Sartorius (So., Summit, NJ/Summit) recorded 12 saves with one goal allowed in the first half, while Rob Hamilton (Fr., Monkton, MD/Gilman) and Will McIntire (So., Arlington, VA/Taft) combined to stop three shots with two goals allowed in the second half.

The key to the game for F&M was a balanced attack in which eight different players found the back of the net.

Bryan Nolan (Sr., Scottsdale, AZ/Western Reserve) notched three goals and two assists, while Beau Smith (Sr., Baltimore, MD/Gilman) added one goal and three assists in the effort.

Colin Hanley (So., Davidsonville, MD/DeMatha) tacked on three goals and an assist, Vandy Vanderwarker (Jr., Keswick, VA/STAB) scored three goals and an assist and team co-captain Jon Singer (Sr., Reisterstown, MD/Boys' Latin) fired in a goal and dished out his 11th assist of the season.

The win improves F&M to 3-0, as the Diplomats are one of three Centennial Conference teams to open the year with three straight wins joining McDaniel and Muhlenberg.

F&M will continue the season on Sunday, March 16 at #3 nationally ranked Washington & Lee University. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m. in Lexington, Virginia.
