SWARTHMORE, PA -- Eight Franklin & Marshall College players scored goals as the Diplomats defeated Swarthmore College in Centennial Conference men's lacrosse, 13-3. F&M (9-1, 4-1 CC) went on the offensive early behind goals from Bas Solleveld (Jr., Glenmoore, PA/Shipley), Carter Gray (Fr., New York, NY/Deerfield) and Bryan Nolan (Sr., Scottsale, AZ/Western Reserve) to take a 3-0 lead twelve seconds into the second period. Swarthmore's Joe DeSimone answered with an unassisted score with 6:46 left in the half for a 3-1 F&M lead at halftime. In the second half, the Diplomats turned up the pressure as Beau Smith (Sr., Baltimore, MD/Gilman), Solleveld, Colin Hanley (So., Davidsonville, MD/DeMatha) and Vandy Vanderwarker (Jr., Keswick, VA/STAB) scored to build a 7-1 lead before John Murphy punched in a score to cut the F&M lead to five with 2:12 left in the third period. With 1:56 left in the period, Chris Wathey (Jr., South Huntington, NY/St. Anthony's) beat two defenders and buried a shot past Swarthmore goalie Ryan Croken to an 8-1 lead. The fourth period was all F&M as Jon Singer (Sr., Reisterstown, MD/Boys Latin), Nolan, Wathey and Smith tallied scores as the Diplomats outshot Swarthmore 38 to 22 In goal, Mike Sartorius (So., Summit, NJ/Summit) made nine saves with three goals allowed for the win, while Croken stopped 13 shots and allowed 13 goals to take the loss. Franklin & Marshall will continue the season on April 16 at home versus McDaniel College. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. at Williamson Field. SCORE BY PERIODS
