LANCASTER, PA -- The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association has announced that Franklin & Marshall College midfielder Jon Singer (Sr., Reisterstown, MD/Boys' Latin) and attackman Bryan Nolan (Sr., Scottsdale, AZ/Western Reserve) have been named to the 2003 STX/USILA All-America Team. Nolan & Singer, who made the organization's honorable mention squad, are the 32nd and 33rd players to garner All-American status while in the blue and white uniform of Franklin & Marshall College. Further, they are the third and fourth F&M players in three years to earn the award as goaltender Dave Kahn '01 and defenseman Chris Schellhorn '02 also earned honorable mention status following their senior seasons. An All-CC first team selection, Nolan tallied 37-10-47 this year to tie for third in scoring on the team with Beau Smith (Sr., Baltimore, MD/Gilman) and finish his career with 87-38-125. Against two-time defending national championship runner-up Gettysburg College, he scored a game high five goals in a 15-12 victory which snapped a 15-game losing streak to the Bullets. F&M’s last victory in the series was an 18-8 decision in the teams’ 1990 season finale. The team's leading scorer, Singer tallied 26-30-56 while earning All-Centennial Conference first team honors. An NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship candidate, pre-season honorable mention All-America selection and a 2003 Verizon Academic All-District II selection, he continued a string of success this year following back-to-back standout seasons as a sophomore and junior. A 2001 Honorable Mention and 2002 Second Team All-CC recipient, Singer led the team in goals scored in 2002 (24) and 2001 (27) to conclude his career at the College with 92-55-147. He will conclude his collegiate career in the prestigious United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association/STX North-South All-Star Game at Sacred Heart University on Saturday, June 7 in Fairfield, Connecticut. The honor marks the second straight year a Diplomat will appear in the North-South Game as defenseman Chris Schellhorn '02 appeared in the 2002 game at Johns Hopkins University last year. Schellhorn's participation marked F&M's first inclusion since 1996 when attackmen Chris Mergadt '96, Don Gervais '96 and midfielder Jeremy Nierman '96 were named to the South team after leading the Diplomats to a 9-4 record. The Division III contest begins at 12:00 p.m. on Sacred Heart's Campus Field. Historically, the pair led a resurgence of men's lacrosse as the Diplomats finished the year ranked #9 in the nation and received an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship Tournament where the Diplomats advanced to the quarterfinals before being defeated by eventual national champion Salisbury University. The NCAA playoff berth marked the third in program history (1988, 1990, and 1995) as the Diplomats finished the year with a 12-4 mark for the best record since the 1988 team went 13-3 and advanced to the "Final Four".
