#1 Salisbury University Defeats #9 Franklin & Marshall 26-8 in NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Quarterfinals

SALISBURY, MD - Scott Simmons scored five goals and Josh Bergey added four as #1 Salisbury University defeated Franklin & Marshall College 26-8 in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III men's lacrosse tournament. Salisbury jumped on the board first 1:16 into the game on an unassisted goal by Scott Simmons which sparked a 6-0 run by the Seagulls to start the game. Simmons scored two goals during the stretch while Chris Phillips added a goal and an assist. Beau Smith (Sr., Baltimore, MD/Gilman) ended the run connecting on a Colin Hanley (So., Davidsonville, MD/Dematha) assist with 3:06 left in the first period to cut the deficit to 6-1. In the second period, Salisbury out scored the Diplomats 8-1 as Bryan Nolan (Sr., Scottsdale, AZ/Western Reserve) scored off an assist by Steve Welsh (So., Lewes, DE/Cape Henelopen) with 3:12 left in the half. The second half started much like the first as Simmons scored 1:16 into the third period to give the Seagulls a 17-3 lead. F&M answered four minutes later as Vandy Vanderwarker (Jr., Keswick, VA/STAB) scored an unassisted goal and Nolan scored twice in 24 seconds to ignite a 3-0 run by the Diplomats. After a Bas Solleveld (Jr., Glenmoore, PA/Shipley) goal at the 14:36 mark of the fourth quarter, Salisbury outscored the Diplomats 6-1 to close out the game. For the Diplomats, Nolan scored four goals and Smith added two goals and an assist in the effort, while Welsh dished out three assists. In goal, Mike Sartorius (So., Summit, NJ/Summit) finished with 10 saves in 50 minutes of play.
