BALTIMORE, MD -- The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association has announced that Franklin & Marshall College midfielder Jon Singer (Sr., Reisterstown, MD/Boys' Latin) was named a Scholar All-America selection. The USILA Scholar All-America team recognizes student-athletes who have excelled academically, athletically and as citizens in their respective communities. Athletes named to this team are seniors who meet the following criteria: a cumulative 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and a member of an All-America team or one of the North-South All-Star teams. All nominees must be of strong character and have conducted themselves on and off the field in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution and to the sport of collegiate lacrosse. Overall, he is the second F&M player in three years named to the Scholar All-America team as goaltender Dave Kahn '01 garnered the honor in 2001. The 32nd player in program history to garner All-American honors, he joined attackman Bryan Nolan (Sr., Scottsdale, AZ/Western Reserve) on the 2003 STX/USILA All-America honorable mention team this year. Historically, the pair marked the third and fourth F&M players in three years to earn the award as Kahn and defenseman Chris Schellhorn '02 also earned honorable mention status following their senior seasons. The team's leading scorer, Singer tallied 26-30-56 while earning All-Centennial Conference first team honors this year. An NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship candidate, pre-season honorable mention All-America selection and a 2003 Verizon Academic All-District II selection, he continued a string of success this year following back-to-back standout seasons as a sophomore and junior. A 2001 Honorable Mention and 2002 Second Team All-CC recipient, Singer led the team in goals scored in 2002 (24) and 2001 (27) to conclude his career at the College with 92-55-147. A South team selection for the 62nd Annual STX/USILA Division III North-South Classic at Sacred Heart University on June 7, Singer scored at the 48:03 mark to tie the game at 10-10, ignite a three goal surge and lead the Division III South All-Stars to a 15-11 win over the North All-Stars. Overall, Singer's appearance in the North-South Game marked the second straight year a Diplomat participated in the contest as Schellhorn appeared in the 2002 game at Johns Hopkins University. Schellhorn's participation marked F&M's first inclusion since 1996 when attackmen Chris Mergadt '96, Don Gervais '96 and midfielder Jeremy Nierman '96 were named to the South team after leading the Diplomats to a 9-4 record. Historically, Singer helped lead a resurgence of men's lacrosse as the Diplomats finished the year ranked #9 in the nation and received an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship Tournament. In the tournament, F&M advanced to the quarterfinals before being defeated by eventual national champion Salisbury University. The NCAA playoff berth marked the third in program history (1988, 1990, and 1995) as the Diplomats finished the year with a 12-4 mark for the best record since the 1988 team went 13-3 and advanced to the "Final Four".
