ARLINGTON, VA -- Midfielder Bas Solleveld (Sr., Glenmoore, PA/Shipley) scored five goals and dished out one assist to lead the Franklin & Marshall College men's lacrosse team to a 15-4 rout of Marymount University in the 2004 season-opener.

The key to the game for F&M was a balanced attack in which eight different players found the back of the net.

Solleveld wasted no time making his presence felt in the game as he beat Marymount goalie Matt McConnell 2:03 into the game with an unassisted blast to put F&M out in front to stay.

Attackman Steve Welsh (Jr., Lewes, DE/Cape Henelopen) added to the score 64 seconds later as he split the Saints' defense before unleashing a shot which eluded McConnell for a 2-0 lead.

Sixty-one seconds later, attackman Chris Wathey (Sr., South Huntington, NY/St. Anthony's) tallied the first of two consecutive unassisted scores before beating the Marymount "D" for another goal with 7:45 left in the first period.

Solleveld then tallied his first hat trick of the season by juking his way through down the field before rocketing a shot into the twine for a 5-0 lead with 5:44 left in the first period. Marymount's DJ Tayman broke up the shutout with 1:47 left in the period with a stick-side high shot which found its way into the back of the net.

The Diplomats countered the goal in the opening minutes of the second period as attackman Cyrus Adams (Fr., Nashville, TN/Montgomery Bell) netted the first goal of his career at the 10:05 mark to put F&M back in front by five. Attackman Mike Down (Fr., Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) added the first goal of his career 38 seconds later with an unassisted tally for a 7-1 lead.

Marymount answered as John Dynan finished a feed from Tayman with a rising shot for a goal at the 8:34 mark to slice the lead back to five. Solleveld finished off the quarter with scores at 6:33 and 5:19 as F&M carried a 9-2 lead into the break.

In the third period, Franklin & Marshall put the game out of reach with three scores.

Midfielder Colin Hanley (Jr., Davidsonville, MD/DeMatha) got his team rolling after intermission by wristing an assist from Wathey past McConnell eighty-six seconds into the period. Wathey tacked on another goal with five minutes left off a Solleveld assist before Solleveld ripped in another score with 1:10 left on the clock for a 12-2 lead. For Marymount, Tayman added his second goal of the game with 12 seconds remaining as the Saints trailed 12-3 with one quarter remaining.

In the fourth quarter, midfielder Kyle Eingorn (So., Newton, PA/George School) put home an unassisted goal at the 14-minute mark to go ahead by 10 goals. Attackman Jeff Osmond (So., Wilemette, IL/New Trier) added to the lead by finishing a feed from Kohl with 7:05 to go before Marymount's Nick Hoefer finished off his team's scoring with an unassisted tally with 2:42 left in the game.

For F&M, Down tacked on his second career goal off an assist by Welsh with 1:22 left in the game to close out the 15-4 victory.

In goal, Mike Sartorius (Jr., Summit, NJ/Summit) recorded seven saves on 17 Marymount shots with three goals allowed in three quarters. Will McIntire (Jr., Arlington, VA/Taft) stopped one shot in 11 minutes of relief, while Rob Hamilton (So., Monkton, MD/Gilman) recorded one save with one goal allowed in four minutes of play.

For Marymount, McConnell went the distance recording 11 saves on 38 F&M shots.
