LANCASTER, PA - The Franklin & Marshall College men's lacrosse team is ranked 14th in the nation in the March 8 STX/USILA Division III poll. Ranked #9 last week, the Diplomats have opened the season with a 1-1 mark as the team defeated Marymount (15-4 W), but fell to Stevens Tech (13-11 L). Leading the team last week was midfielder Bas Solleveld (Sr., Glenmoore, PA/Shipley School) who scored five goals and dished out one assist to lead the Franklin & Marshall College men's lacrosse team to a rout of Marymount University in the 2004 season-opener. He tacked on a goal and an assist in the loss to Stevens Tech as he has six goals and two assists for eight points to lead the team in scoring through the first two games of the season. In the Centennial Conference, he ranks 12th in points (4.0) and 10th in goals (3.0) as Solleveld now has 55 goals and 25 assists for 80 points in his career. Overall, Franklin & Marshall ranks fifth in scoring offense (13.00 gpg), sixth in scoring defense (8.50 gpg), first in man-up percentage (66.7%, four-of-six) and fifth in man-down percentage (66.7%, 10-of-15). Franklin & Marshall (1-1, 0-0 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on March 13 at home in on Sponaugle-Williamson Field versus Washington & Lee. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. The game will mark the first showdown between the two teams since the Diplomats edged the Generals 5-4 in Virginia on March 16, 2003. Overall, Franklin & Marshall was the only Centennial Conference school to defeat Washington & Lee last year as Gettysburg and Washington fell by 10-9 and 6-5 finals to the Generals, respectively.
