by Eastern College Athletic Conference
5/12/05

CAPE COD, MA - The Commissioner of the ECAC, Phil Buttafuoco has announced the 2005-06 class of Asa S. Bushnell interns. Corey Holton of Elmira College, Karen Kuhlman of The College of William and Mary, Joseph Robichau of Franklin and Marshall College and Megan Sturges of Ithaca College have accepted positions for the prestigious internship that will begin this September.

"I am excited for these fine young men and women to join the ECAC staff next year," said Buttafuoco. "I am looking forward to providing a quality experience for each of them and seeing their opportunity here at the conference open doors for their careers." Holton, completing her degree in psychology this May, has captained the women's soccer team at Elmira for the last two seasons. She will assume the duties of the Bushnell Intern for Communications upon her arrival on the Cape. In addition to playing soccer during her tenure at Elmira, she also served as the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Board and was selected to represent and communicate for all student-athletes encompassing the Empire Eight conference at the National NCAA conference. A member of four esteemed honor societies, Holton is a native of Wilmington, Vermont. She represents the first Elmira graduate to be named a Bushnell intern.

Kuhlman will step into the Strategic Marketing and Business Development internship in September. A transfer student from Hanover College in Indiana, Kuhlman has made a profound imprint on the Tribe's athletic department. A varsity diving team member at the College, she currently works closely with the Tribe Club, an organization that works to raise funds for William and Mary athletics to propel the highly ascribed athletic programs at the College. Additionally, she has served as a manager for the EIGL member men's varsity gymnastics team. In May, Kuhlman will receive a bachelor's degree in business administration. Hailing from Kentucky originally, Kuhlman will become the first-ever Bushnell intern from William and Mary.

Robichau, a native of Martha's Vineyard, has accepted the Hockey and Rowing internship position. An English major, Robichau is a four-year varsity letter winner in the sport of lacrosse and also participated on the men's club ice hockey team at Franklin and Marshall. Robichau, a familiar face both on the rink and the playing field in Pennsylvania and in New England, is also an advocate for community service through student-athlete participation both south and here on the Cape and Islands. A member of Delphic Society, an academic society for top student-athletes in the classroom, the nearby native has also coached lacrosse camps while suiting up for the Diplomats.

The championships internship will be filled by Sturges, a graduating senior from Ithaca College. Sturges, a sports management student, has interned at both the Bombers' athletic department and at neighboring Cornell University, responsible for game day management duties in each position. In addition to her administrative experience, she is a seasoned runner and has collected letters in three sports, including cross country, crew, and indoor and outdoor track and field. An administrator at the annual CVS Charity Classic Golf Tournament, the Barrington, Rhode Island native will depart later this month from Yale University on a nine-week, 4,000 mile bike trip to California to raise money for Habitat for Humanity.

The prestigious Asa S. Bushnell internship offers students from ECAC institutions hands-on experience in all areas of operation of the only multi-divisional conference in the country.

The ECAC's membership includes 323 Divisions I, II, and III colleges and universities from Maine to North Carolina. The conference provides services to its constituents that include: administration of 111 championships and events in 35 men's and women's sports; assigning officials in 15 sports; coordinating awards; administration of affiliate organizations, conventions, meetings, marketing, officiating, playing leagues, public relations and special events. The ECAC serves as the primary conference for selected members in the sports of men's and women's ice hockey, men's lacrosse, men's gymnastics, wrestling, fencing and rowing.
