LANCASTER, PA - The Franklin & Marshall College men's lacrosse team is ranked fifth in the April 13 NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse South Region Rankings. Ranked #18 in the April 11 Laxpower.com NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse Forum Poll and #17 in the April 11 USILA/STX Coaches Poll, the Diplomats are the only Centennial Conference team ranked among the region’s best. Leading the way have been attackmen Cyrus Adams (So., Nashville, TN/Montgomery Bell) and Steve Welsh (Sr., Lewes, DE/Cape Henelopen) who have combined for 40 goals and 28 assists through the first eight games of the season. The team’s leading scorer 13 goals and 25 assists for 38 points, Welsh scored three goals and assisted on two others for five points to lead F&M to a 10-2 victory over Muhlenberg at Williamson Field on April 9. The points raised Welsh’s career scoring totals to 77 goals and 92 assists for 169 points as he surpassed Don Gervais ’96 (90) for third place in assists at the College, and eclipsed Paul Friedman ’75 (166) to move into a tie with Peter Bidstrup ’86 (169) for fifth in points in Franklin & Marshall College men’s lacrosse history. Adams leads the team in goals scored as he has tallied 27-3-30 to date as the Diplomats are outscoring their opponents 85-52. In goal, Mike Sartorius (Sr., Summit, NJ/Summit) has a 6.09 goals against average and .674 save percentage as he now has a 7.94 gaa and a .613 save percentage in his career and ranks first in F&M history in saves with 623 in 2978:51. The key to the Diplomats success has been on defense and face-offs as Matt Capone (Sr., Scarsdale, NY/Scarsdale) has won 120-of-154 (77.9%) face-offs to raise his career total to 618-for-786 (78.63%) and the Franklin & Marshall defense is holding opponents to 6.36 goals per game. Franklin & Marshall (7-1, 3-0 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on April 16 at home versus Washington College in Lancaster.
