LANCASTER, PA – Franklin & Marshall attackman Steve Welsh (Sr., Lewes, DE/Cape Henelopen) and goalkeeper Mike Sartorius (Sr., Summit, NJ/Summit) finished among the national leaders in the final NCAA men’s lacrosse statistics. The 2005 Centennial Conference and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Year, Welsh placed third in assists (3.21 apg) and 12th in points (4.64 ppg) in the NCAA statistics and was named to the STX/United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division III Men’s Lacrosse All-America Team as he became the 34th player in school history to earn All-America honors. The team and Centennial Conference’s leading scorer with 20 goals and 45 assists for 65 points in 14 games, Welsh concludes his career with 84 goals and 112 assists 196 points as he ranks second in assists and fifth in points in school history. In Centennial Conference games, he tallied 11 goals and 28 assists for 39 points this year in eight games as he led the Diplomats to a 5-3 record, fourth place in the conference standings and a playoff berth. In goal, Sartorius placed ninth in goals against average (7.32 gaa) and 20th in save percentage (.620) as he allowed 95 goals with 155 saves for a .620 save percentage in 779 minutes of play. The F&M career leader in saves with 678, he concludes his career with an 8.03 goals against average and .604 save percentage in 3324 minutes of play. Franklin & Marshall concluded the season 9-5, 5-3 in Centennial Conference play as the team’s record marks the fifth straight season the Diplomats have recorded nine or more wins to tie the school record of the 1970-74 Diplomats.
