LANCASTER, PA – Franklin & Marshall College is picked to finish fifth in the 2006 Centennial Conference men’s lacrosse preseason poll. F&M received 38 points (teams not permitted to vote for themselves) to finish one point behind fourth place Haverford (39) and four in front of sixth place McDaniel (34) Historically, the Franklin & Marshall men's lacrosse program is one of the strongest in NCAA Division III as F&M has registered nine conference championships in the last 32 years with a 49-year record of 332-311. Ranked #24 in the Inside Lacrosse preseason poll, Franklin & Marshall will be led by attackman Cyrus Adams (Jr., Nashville, TN/Montgomery Bell), who led the Centennial Conference in goals with 41 while dishing out five assists for 46 points last season. Two other players to watch are midfielder Kevin Kohl (Jr., Manasquan, NJ/Loomis Chaffee) and goalie Tim Kjeldgaard (So., Yarmouth, ME/Hyde). Last season, Kohl tallied 15 goals and four assists for 19 points, including the game-winner in a 12-7 victory over McDaniel College at Sponaugle-Williamson Field on April 27. For his career, Kohl has 24 goals and six assists for 30 points. Between the pipes, Kjeldgaard appeared in one game last year allowing a goal with a save, but should be the Diplomats’ starting goalie on opening day. On the sidelines for the fifth year will be head coach Bill Gorrow who has compiled a record of 39-21 in four seasons. Historically, Gorrow’s record marks the best four year run of any coach as only the 1987-1990 teams under head coaches Ross Sachs and G.W. Mix had a better record (41-19). The head coach at Anne Arundel Community College from 1993 until taking over the Diplomats in the summer of 2001, he led AACC to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championship in 1998 and guided F&M to the 2003 NCAA Quarterfinals.
