SELINSGROVE, PA – Brandon Corday (So., Morton Grove, IL/Niles Township) scored with 16 seconds remaining in the second overtime period as the Franklin & Marshall College men’s soccer team rallied to defeat Susquehanna University 3-2 in double overtime in non-conference action at Sassafras Field.

Trailing 2-1 at halftime, the Diplomats climbed back into the game in the 75th minute as Corday took a pass from Ben Wilson (Sr., Lititz, PA/Lititz Christian) and beat Susquehanna goalie Austin Kelsey to knot the score at 2-2 at the 74:41 mark as Franklin & Marshall out shot the Crusaders 7-4 in the second half.

The game remained tied for the next 35:03 before Corday collected a free ball and moved in one-one-one with Kelsey before blasting a shot into the upper left corner of the goal for the game-winning goal with 16 seconds left to play in the second and final 10 minute overtime period.

The overtime periods were a back-and-forth battle as the Crusaders out shot F&M 2-0 in the first 10 extra minutes of play before Franklin & Marshall countered with a 5-0 advantage in shots in the final 9:44 to take the win.

Overall, the Diplomats opened the scoring in the game as Wilson finished a centering pass from Dave Heller (Sr., Somers, NY/North Salem) at the 31:16 mark for a 1-0 lead.

However, Susquehanna knotted the score at 1-1 in 2:07 as Mike Bobek assisted Nate Snyder on a goal at 33:23 to tie the score.

Nine minute later, the Crusaders took the lead as Snyder became the all-time leading goal scorer in Susquehanna University history by redirecting a pass from Dave Corsones for his 30th career goal and a 2-1 lead at the 42:51 mark to set up Corday’s second half heroics.

The pair of goals marked the third time Corday has scored two goals in a game during his two year career as he netted two goal games versus the University of Scranton (5-0 W) and Muhlenberg College (4-3 W) last year on his way to becoming the first Franklin & Marshall College men’s soccer player named to an All-Region team as he earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America Mid-Atlantic Region second team honors.

In goal, Ed Stelz (Jr., Kew Gardens, NY/Loomis Chaffee) made four saves on 12 Susquehanna shots, including one save in overtime, to earn the win, while Kelsey took the loss making two saves on 15 F&M shots.

Franklin & Marshall (4-4-3, 2-3 CC) will continue the season on October 15 at Ursinus College in Centennial Conference action. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
