Corday Scores Twice as Diplomats Clip Rutgers-Camden 4-3 in Men's Soccer

CAMDEN, NJ – Forward Brandon Corday (So., Morton Grove, IL/Niles Township) scored twice and assisted on a goal as the Franklin & Marshall College men’s soccer team knocked off #7 regionally ranked Rutgers-Camden 4-3 in non-conference action.

Leading 1-0 following a goal by Alex Shuptar (Jr., Philadelphia, PA/Kents Hill) off an assist from Steve Loscalzo (Jr., Devon, PA/Conestoga) 1:17 into the game, Corday fed a pass to Jason Keil (So., Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) off a corner kick for a 2-0 lead 11:14 into the game.

Rutgers-Camden halved the lead 15 minutes later as Devin Burgin took a pass at the left post from the foot of Rodney Guishard and converted on the opportunity for cut Franklin & Marshall’s lead to 2-1 at the 26:13 mark.

The teams exchanged goals over the next nine minutes as Corday stole a pass and buried a shot past Scarlet Raptors starting goalie Brent Grunow at the 31:19 mark to put the Diplomats back in front by two goals at 3-1. However, Andrew Simmons and Pat Baldiserra connected on a two-pass combo to James Ono who finished with a shot to the left side of the goal at 35:46 to pull Rutgers to within 3-2 at halftime.

Following 17 minutes of scoreless play in the second half, Corday tacked on the game-winning goal off a pass from Keil at 62:12 for a 4-2 lead.

Rutgers attempted to climb back into the game as Baris Uslu tapped in a goal on a loose ball following a save by goalie Ed Stelz (Jr., Kew Gardens, NY/Loomis Chaffee) at 88:31.

The Franklin & Marshall defense did the rest holding the Raptors without another goal as the Diplomats improved to 6-4-3 on the season.

In goal, Stelz made eight saves and allowed three goals in 90 minutes to earn the win, while Grunow made four saves and allowed three goals in the first half and David Cunningham recorded two saves with a goal allowed in the second half to take the loss for Rutgers.

Franklin & Marshall (6-4-3, 3-3 CC) will continue the season on October 22 at home versus Washington College. Match time is set for 3:00 p.m.
