Cruice Leads Diplomats at PHATTT Men's Team Tennis Championships

HAVERFORD, PA – Seth Cruice (So., Darien, CT/Greens Farms) placed third at #3-4 singles to lead the Franklin & Marshall men’s tennis team at the Philadelphia Area Team Tennis Tournament hosted by Haverford College.

Cruice rolled through his early match downing Jamie Goldman of Muhlenberg 6-1, 6-4 before falling to Kelen Webb of Haverford 6-1, 6-1. In the third place match, Cruice downed Ross Lieblich of Drew 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (5).

George Stamboulis (Sr., Ekali, Greece/American Community School) placed fourth at #5-6 singles as he defeated Tim Ness of Muhlenberg 6-1, 6-1, but fell to Tad Henry of Haverford 6-1, 6-2 before dropping a 6-2, 6-0 match to Jason Woods of Drew in the third place showdown.

The best match of the tournament may have occurred in the consolation finals at #1-2 singles as Andrew Mayer (Sr., West Chester, PA/West Chester East) defeated Alex Levy (Sr., West Windsor, NJ/Lawrenceville) 7-5, 6-7 (6), 1-0 (2) to finish fifth in the bracket.

In the #3-4 singles consolation final, Vik Rao of Drew defeated Ben Hart (Fr., Newtown, PA/George School) 7-5, 6-1 as Hart placed sixth in the bracket, while Mark Watson (So., New York, NY/Hyde School) fell to Rick Rapoport of Drew 6-2, 6-4 in the #5-6 singles consolation finals match to finish sixth.

At #1 doubles, the team of Levy and Mayer finished third as the duo bested the pairing of Jamie Goldman and Brad Gutwillig 8-6. F&M also picked up third at #2 doubles as Cruice and Dave Janerich (Fr., Kingston, PA/Wyoming Seminary) downed Jesse Kirschenbaum and Tim Ness of Muhlenberg 8-5

For his performance and conduct, Hart was awarded the sportsmanship trophy at #3-4 singles as voted on the tournament’s players and coaches.
