LANCASTER, PA – The Franklin & Marshall College men’s cross country team will compete in the 2005 Centennial Conference Championship set for October 29 at Oregon Ridge Park in Hunt Valley, Md.

Leading the way is Harrison Miller (So., Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill) as the team will look to improve on the last two seasons eighth place finishes.

The Diplomats will look to move into the top six for the first time since 1999 and could crack the top five for the first time since 1998.

The team will enter the championship race with experience on the Oregon Ridge Park course as Miller crossed the finish line in 28:33 to place 28th and lead the Franklin & Marshall College men’s cross country team to a seventh place finish at the Johns Hopkins University Blue Jay Invitational.

Pavel Marosin (So., Jackson Heights, NY/Francis Lewis) and Joe Burley (Fr., Laurel Springs, NJ/Highland Regional) finished 37th (28:54) and 39th (28:56), while Bryan Jennings (Fr., South Windsor, CT/Loomis-Chaffee) and Chris Desilets (So., Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) placed 74th (30:00) and 85th (30:27), respectively, to account for F&M’s five scoring runners.

If F&M is to win the Conference title, the team will have to knock off Centennial Conference powerhouse Haverford College that is favored to take its 13th consecutive CC crown.

The Fords have six of the top eight runners in the Conference Coaches’ Rankings, including the top three of senior Grant Scott, junior Ian Ramsey-North and sophomore Don Letts. Senior Will McGuire, sophomore James Jablin and senior Bernie Muller place 6-7-8 on the list as Haverford is ranked #4 nationally.

McGuire was the individual winner at the 2004 championship, while Scott and Ramsey-North also earned first team All-Centennial Conference recognition, as the Fords tallied 18 points – just three shy of a perfect score.

Dickinson will also contend for the title as sophomore Tom Rhodes and junior Matt Liebal are ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, in the CC.

Others to keep an eye on include Gettysburg junior Andy Carmer, McDaniel senior Paul Hugus and Johns Hopkins sophomore Patrick Brandon.

The men’s varsity race will be contested over an eight-kilometer course at noon with the junior varsity 6K-race set for 12:45 p.m.
