Franklin & Marshall Picked Ninth in 2006 Centennial Conference Softball Preseason Poll

LANCASTER, PA – The Franklin & Marshal College softball team is picked ninth in the 2006 Centennial Conference Coaches Poll. The Diplomats earned 10 points in the poll, while Ursinus College leads the poll with 64 points, including eight first place votes. McDaniel College ranks second with 52 points and one first place vote, while Gettysburg College (48), Muhlenberg College (41), Washington College (41), Dickinson College (23), Haverford College (23), Swarthmore (22) and F&M round out the poll. Leading the team will be outfielder Dana Johns (Sr., York, PA/Eastern York) who earned All-Centennial Conference first team recognition last season. She hit .284 (31-for-109) with 17 runs scored, three doubles, five RBI and 26 stolen bases on 32 attempts last year as she raised her career totals to 81 hits, 37 runs, 10 doubles, one triple and 27 RBI in 92 games. Further, she is 47-for-61 in career stolen bases as she ranks fourth in school history in the category and has a chance to break the F&M career record of 66 held by Mimi Young ’96. Another player to watch is first baseman Kathleen Clinchy (So., Katonah, NY/Somers) who led the team in runs batted in and walks last year with 11 and 10, respectively, as she batted .260 with four doubles, two triples and six runs scored. Franklin & Marshall will open the season on March 7 at home versus Messiah College in a doubleheader. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
